App update alert: a more streamlined WhisperClaims

Here at WhisperClaims, we’re committed to making sure that our app is fit for purpose, supporting our users to prepare robust and reliable R&D tax relief claims with the minimum of fuss. With this in mind we’ve recently undertaken a project to simplify and streamline aspects of the app to counter some of the complexity that has been introduced by HMRC’s recent changes.

Why make the changes?

The way that claims are prepared in WhisperClaims hasn’t changed much since the app was first designed, which meant that certain sections of the question set were no longer needed, or could be replaced by publicly available information. In addition, the requirement to include detailed projects descriptions and the introduction of our AI review feature meant that some information was asked for multiple times during the process.

In response to this we’ve removed some questions, condensed some others and expanded the information we bring in from Companies House, rationalising the process of preparing a claim and improving the experience for everyone!

What’s changed?

The main changes are in the question set, which is now shorter and more focussed. We’ve:

• Expanded the information we pull in from Companies House, allowing us to completely remove the qualifications checks section;
• Condensed technical questions about the projects, uncertainties and eligible activities to remove the need to duplicate data entry;
• Added the claimant company’s registered address to the front page of the report, and;
• Removed some of the technical boilerplate from the report.

In addition to making the question set more streamlined, these changes also enable us to:

• Display the company type and status in the app;
• Block claims being added or paid for for ineligible entities or companies, and;
• Give collaborators immediate access to the claim, rather than waiting for the qualification checks to be completed.

These changes make preparing claims using the WhisperClaims app easier and quicker without compromising quality or compliance.
